Road Trip Day 10: Cannon Beach, OR

We woke up to drizzling rain on our full day in Cannon Beach and our plans to run on the beach and eat a picnic lunch outside were unfortunately no longer plausible.

Instead we headed out to the beautiful Ecola State Park and walked on Indian Beach.

After a chilly beach experience we ate another quick/fried lunch at Mo’s at Brad’s request. I had the fish tacos which were superb. Brad had his usual. We figured we better go someplace we knew would be good. We took one last look at the Haystack and drove up to Seaside, OR to play at Funland!

Our inner kids came out and we had an absolute blast. I won 250 tickets on the Big Bass Wheel, which was incredibly exciting. The tickets just kept on coming! The best part was: just mere seconds before I won Brad was playing on the same machine and thought he won 250 tickets but he actually landed on the 4 tickets section. His disappointment was quickly wiped away though!

Since the rain was creating a huge mess we decided to head to Portland to stay at my brother’s very neat loft.

I was convinced to skip another night on the ground in our tent when Dick’s Kitchen was mentioned as a possible dinner destination. Here we enjoyed their famous vegan Italian sausage with grilled peppers and onions, baked “non-fries”, and Brad had a tasty little burger with bacon.

I have eaten a lot of fake meat items but this sausage was by far the best texture, consistency, and flavor. It was generously seasoned with fennel and just the right amount of spice. I was also impressed with the appropriate portions and healthy choices this restaurant has made. They include almost no salt in their recipes, bake their fries, serve only 4oz portions of meat, and offer numerous vegan and vegetarian choices. We indulged in some creamy milkshakes, which I forgot to take a picture of, but they were great. I would go back in a heartbeat.
